The Procedural Aspects of International Law Institute announces The Professor Richard B. Lillich Prize for the best S.J.D. or Ph.D. Dissertation on a topic of procedural international law

The Procedural Aspects of International Law (PAIL) Institute is a nonprofit organization devoted to furthering the observance of international law through research, consulting, and publishing monographs and other educational materials. Established in 1965 by academic lawyers (including Richard B. Lillich), governmental officials, and private practitioners, the Institute's activities include work in areas as diverse as international claims settlement, State responsibility and diplomatic protection, a draft convention on terrorism, the concept of autonomy in international law, the reform of international organizations, and the international protection of human rights.

In recognition of the unique contribution of Richard B. Lillich to international law throughout his career, the PAIL Institute announces a competition for its second biennial Lillich Prize. The 2006-07 Prize -- in the amount of US$5,000 -- will be awarded for the best S.J.D. or Ph.D. dissertation submitted to any Faculty of Law in the world in calendar years 2006 and 2007. The dissertation may be on any subject of private or public international law, so long as it involves a procedural dimension in the practical development, observance, or enforcement of international law, rights, and duties. The dissertation must be in English and must be submitted electronically by November 1, 2008, to lillich-prize@pail-institute.org, in an acceptable format (such as Adobe Acrobat). The Prize submissions will be reviewed by a distinguished jury, including PAIL's Senior Fellows and Advisory Board Members. To be eligible, the dissertation may not have been previously accepted for publication; the winning submission will be published in the prestigious PAIL Series of monographs, in addition to receiving the cash prize.
